Lab 2:Free FallDavid LiuFebruary 4, 2015Individual ReportPhysics 2APURPOSE:
The purpose of this experiment is to measure the magnitude of the acceleration for a free falling object and compare it to the result with the standard value of gravity pulling on all objects on Earth.EQUIPMENT:1.Free fall apparatus (set up by professor)2.Power supply3.Spark Generator4.Roll of paper strip5.Free falling object (metal pallet)6.Meter stickPROCEDURE:The first step of this experiment after the apparatus has been set up, is to roll an unusedstrip of paper and tape it to the pole in between the wires and the pole stand vertically. Then test the electromagnet by turning on the power supply that is attached to the apparatus, and place the free falling object (metal pallet) on the tip making sure that it holds and is in a stationary position, then turn off the power supply to see if the free falling object corresponds to the electromagnet. If not, readjust the object and the electromagnet to try again. After making sure the object is held in place, select the
