Lab 4: Uniform Circular Motion David Liu February 16, 2015 Individual Report Physics 2A Group 3 Group Members: Mohammad Hussain Juliet Sanchez Daniel Belmar PURPOSE:
The main purpose of this experiment is to measure and study the centripetal force F c exerted while an object is being swung in a uniformly circular motion. The results will be compared with the theoretical value and the experimental value to obtain an experimental error percentage. EQUIPMENT: 1. A circular motioning apparatus (with variable speed, a display of speed, and a spring that has a metal piece attached to it to show the centripetal force in action while the cylinder is spinning in circular motion). 2. Weights 3. Measuring tools a. Meter stick/tape measure PROCEDURE: In this experiment the centripetal force will be measured in two different methods. The first is to turn on the circular motioning apparatus, and gradually increasing the speed of the spin (make sure all personnel’s are in a safe distance from the apparatus to avoid possible injuries).
