i Bio Pl 2400 Green World/Blue Planet Fall, 2008 Instructor: Dr. Tom Silva Office: 215 Plant Science Building e-mail: [email protected] phone: 255-8502 Lectures: TR 11:40 AM-12:55 PM The goal of this course is to help individuals understand the scientific information relating to issues they face as citizens, in management decision making, and public policy. We will cover three major themes: Genetic Engineering, Global Climate Change, and Biodiversity. Approximately one third of the semester will be spent on each topic. The role of these lectures is to cover the scientific information related to these topics, so one can make educated comments about the social issues related to them. Everyone has a right to their own opinions, but opinions which reflect a true understanding of the topic are much more valid, and taken more seriously. There will be three exams/quizzes in the class (one on each major topic). You will be quizzed primarily on your understanding of the topics covered in lecture. Again, one goal is to present the science behind these topics.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
