MA104 Lab Report 6 - Parametric Equations; Polar Coordinates Name: Student Number: Lab Winter 2015 1. [6 marks ] Suppose the position of a particle at time t is given by x 1 = 4 cos t , y 1 = 2 sin t , 0 t 2 π and the position of a second particle at time t is given by x 2 = 1 - sin t , y 2 = 2 - cos t, 0 t 2 π. (a) Start Maple and use the following commands to plot the parametric curves on the same axes. Ask your IA to initial below that you’ve completed this step.
(b) It appears there are two points at which the curves intersect. Are either of these points of intersection “collision points”? That is, will the two particles cross paths at the exact same time? If so, where and when? Show your work.
