Adolescence: Starts beginning of puberty and ends when they are physically and  psychologically mature. Girls: 10-14 Boys: Matures later Developmental Tasks: Developing a personal identity.  Rapidly changing body and they start having problems with their self-image. Achieve independence from their parents. Develop intellectual skills (schooling). Start to formulate what a masculine and feminine role are.  Begin to establish mature relationships with peers of both sexes.  Growth Spurts: Starts to mature to look like adults. Boys grow about 3-6 inches and 12-14 lbs Girls grow about 2 and a half-5 inches and 8-10 lbs Peak Height: Girls reach this at about age 11.5 Boys reach their peak heigh later at the age 13.5 Most males don’t grow after ages 19-20 Respiratory: Lungs increase in length and diameter Rate: 16-20 BPM Rate will go down through adolescence
