Slide 17: BMI— Obsisty (Greater than 80 th -95 th  percentile) >30. Overweight: 25- 30 Body systems are at adult level. Grow at steady pace but have grow spurts 2 in per year (2-3 kg per year). 4.4-6.6 lbs per year Earlier in girls: Prepubescent growth spurt Menarche: Occurring earlier, related to genetics and because of sufficient body fat. Type 2 diabetes is a huge issue because of obesity.  Obesity: Factors: Genetics, environmental, sedentary lifestyle.  Diet: Well balanced diet. 1200-1800 cal per day. Access to food so they are making their own snacks or packing their own lunches. Influenced by media.  Busy lifestyles so fast meals are convenient. Eliination:  2 problems that can occur: Enuresis (Inability to hold pee, pee yourself, Nocturnal and  During the Day, Drug therapy to control it), Encopresis (Same thing but poop,  complication of chronic constipation, psychosocial, to fix it there is couseling bowl  management) Should have full bowl and bladder control Sleep:  8-12 hours a night Sleep walking and talking is common, don’t wake make sure they are safe Cognitive-perceptual pattern: Biggest learning disability is ADHD (5-10 percent of children) Treatments: behavior management counseling, nutrition (look at different chemicals and  sugars added to different foods), medication.
