The Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection (in a nutshell) Fact # 1: Reproductive Rates of all organisms are sufficiently high that populations would quickly become enormous if mortality rates did not balance reproductive rates. Fact # 2: All Organisms are Variable and offspring are similar to their parents because they inherit their parent’s features. Conclusion/Theory : the differences among individuals influence how well those individuals survive and reproduce. Traits that increase the probability that their bearers will reproduce successfully are more likely to be passed on to their offspring and to subsequent generations. 3
