Experiment UTA-546 Lab Discussion/Conclusion Linh Ho - 106 The objective of this experiment is to examine the pH of buffered and unbuffered solutions under a number of conditions. This experiment worked out well as the majority of my measured pH had a good correlation with the theoretical pH. The experiment was divided into three different parts by mixing different ratios of reagents in part I, diluting in part II, and adding strong acids and bases in part III. For part I of the experiment, if the volume of acetic acid (weak acid) is greater than the volume of sodium acetate (conjugate base), the pH will decrease to a more acidic pH. If the volume of sodium acetate is greater than the volume of acetic acid, the pH will increase to a more basic pH. In part II of the experiment, solution F and G’s pH remained the same even when diluted because there were equal amounts of weak acid and conjugate base to act as a buffer.
