Clinite Core Section 12 Journal Entry #2 October 4, 2005 To the Editor: After reading Jonathan Rauch’s article, Will Frankenfood Save the Planet?, I began to question the idea of genetically altering plants. Rauch gave me a very optimistic view of the benefits that could come from such advancements. I, however, would like to see the opposing ideas to his argument. Although he did state some of the opposing viewpoints, he didn’t elaborate on the reasoning for these opinions. By doing so, he has denied uneducated readers the ability to decide for themselves what they think about the issue. With his persuasive writing, I’m sure many people were convinced that biotechnology is the only answer. Luckily for me I was able to see errors in his argument from the beginning. I noticed in the second paragraph of the article that Rauch says “with ploughing [comes]… the release into the atmosphere of greenhouse gases stored in the soil,” (Rauch 1). Since I am currently taking a global warming course, I can say that if there is any
