Mind Body Problem Essay As I am sitting here looking at this blank piece of paper trying to think of ways to start this essay, I somehow am controlling my fingers to type these letters which in return are forming words. I am thinking about these words through the use of my mind and my brain is then sending some type of highly scientific signals, which are far too complicated for me to comprehend, running through my arms and to my fingers making me hit theses specific keys on my lap top. The question here is how the body and mind are connected and if they even have anything to do with each other at all. Do the physical processes of me typing have anything to do with my mental processes? Metaphysics, theories about the way the world really is, help to answer the most basic questions of the universe and the things in it. These “things” that make up the universe are called substances. The book gives us 6 metaphysical questions but only the first 4 deal with the study of being, and these questions are called ontology. The first question is, “How many substances are there?” The second is, “What are these substances (water, air, fire, minds, spirit and so on)?” The third is, “How are individual things composed?” The fourth and final question of ontology is, “How do different things and substances interact?” Dualists believe that we as individuals are completely separate entities from our bodies. Our minds are what make us who we truly are and our bodies are unthinking beings that are closely conjoined with our minds. They say that we could potentially exist without our bodies and that is what separates the two.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
