Belief: Secular to traditional As I delved through for that one accepted belief most significant to me, I first thought of  a quote we came upon in my AP History class by the philosopher Descartes. He had once  stated in an excerpt of  Meditation 1 'I had accepted, even from my youth, many false  opinions for true, and that consequently what I afterwards based on such principles was  highly doubtful; and . .. I was convinced of the necessity of undertaking . .. to rid myself of  all the opinions I had adopted'.  It meant to me that we all have our youth filled ideas but  we tend to   move towards a different approach as our knowledge develops. I have had  many shifts in my mind but there is one that I could point out very easily.  I believed for a long period of time that life should be as a means to gain pleasure  and obtain materialistic possessions. It is easy to become absorbed into worldly things
