Patricia (Patsy) Gonzales May 21 st , 2015 Week 10 - A2 The Aging Special Senses AMD affects the central visual field. It is a devastating disease because it affects everything you do. People with AMD lose their ability to perform regular everyday activities; driving, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, etc. AMD affects a person’s ability to be independent. It is a devastating disease that can cause depression and a sense of hopelessness in the elderly. (Todd R. Klesert, 2005) Glaucoma can affect your daily activities such as driving and playing sports because it can distort your visual judgment. Glaucoma causes loss of contrast sensitivity, problems with glare, and light sensitivity. (Glaucoma Research Foundation, 2011) A Cataract is where the lens of the eye develops cloudy or discolored areas. It is a slow progression that gets worse as time goes by. Some people live their whole lives not bothered or affected by cataracts. Others may be affected with their daily activities such as driving, reading, watching TV, or playing sports.
