Jean CampbellAmerican Literature II25 March 2015Good Country PeopleFlannery O’Connor’s short story “Good Country People” was a very interesting piece.Inthis story we read about Mrs. Hopewell and her daughter Joy, who changed her name to Hulga tospite her mother.Both Joy and her mother believe that they are superior to others which leadsthem to be duped by the bible salesman who they believe to be one of the good country people.The story focused on several different themes including the theme of identity and love, religionand existence, and education and society.In the story we see how the characters identify themselves along with others.Mrs.Hopewell, for instance, sees herself above many of the other characters, especially her staff whoshe considers to be either good country people or just plain trash.Hulga, while she shares someof her mother’s views, seems to be torn in the middle mainly due to her health conditions.There
