Psyc 103 Lecture 15 16/11/2007 16:01:00 “over justification effect” Similar to ABAB design Before summer, kids were reading 4 books a read, then during the summer,  rewarded for reading books and the number increased dramatically After program, reading was below base rate, no reinforcement Latent Learning Rats running through a maze o IV: goal box baited or not o DV: mean number of errors o Two groups that got no food reward, about six errors in ten days, then  2.8 errors after ten days o Group 3 did better with food reinforced o Group 2 was given food after ten days, learned the maze just as well  as group 3 in one day Reinforcement is not necessary needed for learning, but necessary for  performance First in cebus monkey o Prefer lever pressing, then door opening, then plunger pulling the least o Try to get them to do plunger pulling by getting rid of alternative
