-Without context, they may seem trivial
Examples of facts:
-The battle of Vimy Ridge was fought in 1917.
-Canadian soldiers were attacked with poison gas at the battle of Ypres.
-Cawthra Park Secondary School is located in Mississauga.
-Justin Trudeau became Prime Minister of Canada in 2015
Opinions are:
- -Conclusions, views, thoughts or feelings
-Not exact or proven
-Vague statements about the past, present, or future
-Express unsubstantiated ideas
Examples of opinions are:
-Imperialism was a positive experience for all countries.
-The Ross rifle was an ineffective weapon of war.
-The battle of Passchendaele was the worst battle Canadians
faced in World War I.
FACTS, OPINIONS, AND ARGUMENTS
Arguments are what happens when you combine facts and opinions
-They use facts to support or reject an opinion
-They explain why something has happened or will happen
-They attempt to prove an opinion by using facts to demonstrate
HOW or WHY it is correct.
Examples:
-Imperialism was a positive experience for Britain because it gave them wealth and power.
-The Ross rifle was an ineffective weapon of war because it continually jammed in the mud.
- Because of he muddy conditions Canadians faced in the battle of Passchendaele, it the worst
battle they fought in during World War I.
