Background My grandmother recently shared a story with me of the horror and persecution she faced when she left her first husband, taking their daughter of five with her and all because she lived in a time where a woman’s word meant nothing compared to that of a mans. Women were still not treated equally to men and regardless of the abuse he bestowed upon her mentally, physically, and emotionally as a husband. She was still considered in the wrong. and heavily heavily victimized and degraded for simply making the smartest choice she could have, which was to leave him. I love my grandmother more than anything and feel this paper would be a good way to understand a little better as to what types of struggles both herself and other women everywhere were fighting for.
