Cadwalladr’s argument is that conservatives are using Google’s algorithms to spread right-wing propaganda to Google users. She uses examples of her searching “are Jews” and “are women” in Google, which auto-completed the searches with “evil.” The search results were mostly articles looking down on Jews and women. Cadwalladr argues this is a flaw in the Google search algorithms and that right wingers take advantage of this to spread propaganda. Anyone who is looking into a subject on Google and sees overwhelmingly one-sided results may be inclined to agree with them because Google didn’t provide them with search results arguing the other side of the argument. This can lead to people falling into an echochamber and not hearing out the opposing side because they’re so used to finding people agreeing with them.
