JOINING THE CONVERSATION–Chapter 7 SummaryChapter 7, entitled “Writing to Analyze,” focuses mainly on the writer and how best to fulfill their role or purpose as an interpreter —someone whose principal goal is to assist readers understand the text. Usually this is done by writers who have utilized the findings, or opinions, of others like them who have approached the same topic. But writing an analytical essay also requires that the writer themselves must apply their own thoughts and experiences in their findings as well. The chapter basically broke down a written analysis into four basic steps: find a conversation and listen in, conduct your analysis, prepare a draft and review/improve your draft. To better comprehend a subject on a more personal level, a writer must first explore their own environment, whether it be physical or social. Asking questions is key, and so is doing a bit of research on one’s own i.e. searching a database at a public library.
