GENERIC NAME:Oseltamivir, Oseltamivir phosphate BRAND NAME:Tamiflu DRUG CLASSIFICATION:Influenza neuraminidase inhibitors,Oralneuraminidaseinhibitor,Antiviral Neuraminidase inhibitor MODE OF ACTION:Oseltamivir phosphate is a pro-drug of the active metabolite (oseltamivir carboxylate) which is a potent and selective inhibitor of influenza virus neuraminidase enzymes, which are glycoproteins found on the virion surface. Viral neuraminidase enzyme activity is important for viral entry into uninfected cells, for the release of recently formed virus particles from infected cells, and for the further spread of the infectious virus in the body.21,15,22 Oseltamivir activity reduces viral shedding and infectivity. SUGGESTED DOSE: Capsules containing 30 mg, 45 mg, or 75 mg of oseltamivir for oral use, in the form of oseltamivir phosphate Powder for oral suspension, which when constituted with water as directed contains 6 mg per mL oseltamivir base. TAMIFLU for oral suspension (supplied as a powder). Formulation (6 mg per mL) for patients who cannot swallow capsules. Prior to use, the supplied TAMIFLU powder must be constituted with water to produce the oral suspension TAMIFLU dosage in patients with moderate or severe renal impairment (estimated creatinine clearance of less than or equal to 90 mL per minute). Dosage modifications are recommended in adults with an estimated creatinine clearance less than or equal to 60 mL per minute Dosage for treatment of influenza, initiate treatment with TAMIFLU within 48 hours of influenza symptom onset. Adults And Adolescents (13 Years Of Age And Older), The recommended oral dosage of TAMIFLU for treatment of
influenza in adults and adolescents 13 years and older is 75 mg twice daily (one 75 mg capsule or 12.5 mL of oral suspension twice daily) for 5 days. Pediatric Patients (2 Weeks Of Age Through 12 Years Of Age), TAMIFLU for treatment of influenza in pediatric patients 2 weeks of age through 12 years of age, for 2 weeks or less than a year give 3mg/kg twice daily, 1 to 12 years of age give 30-45mg twice daily fro 15kg or less, and 60-75mg twice daily for 23-40kg or more.
