Purpose: The purpose of this experiment was to explore and familiarize ourselves with the Atwood machine. The Atwood machine will be constructed in three different configurations. The first will be parallel to the table with a 0 degree incline. The second will have an angle whose tangent is .01. The third will have an angle whose tangent is .03. We will calculate the acceleration and compare it to the measured acceleration recorded from the photo gates. Materials used: Track Cart 500g weight X2 Photo gate X2 Timer Wood block with string attached Assorted Small weights Pulley Ramp incline Procedure: The track was laid on the table with one end hanging slightly off the table. The cart was placed on the ramp and remained stationary. This showed us that the track was somewhat level. The pulley attachment was tightened on to the end hanging off the table. The wooden block was placed on the cart and the string attached was draped over the pulley wheel. The photo gates were attached to the side of the track and programmed to record the
