Soc 5 Final Review Definitions: Concordant Pair: in a crosstabulation of two orderable discrete variables, one observation has a higher rank on both variables than the other member of the pair Discordant Pair: in a crosstabulation of two orderable discrete variables, one member of a pair of observations ranks higher than the other member on one variable, but ranks lower on the second variable. Regression Line: a line that is the best fit to the points in a scatterplot, computed by ordinary least squares regression. Standardized Regression Coefficient: is the size of the effect of the slope in terms of how many standard deviations the dependent variable changes for the increase of one standard deviation of independent variable. (Key word is the "standard deviation of dependent variable and independent variable"). Correlation Coefficient: a measure of association between two continuous variables that estimates the direction and strength of linear relationship. Slope: measures the amount of change in the dependent variable for every change in the independent variable. If a regression line is positive it goes from lower left to upper right. A negative slope in the regression line goes from upper right to lower left.
