Matt Murphy Lifestyle The lifestyle of the Scottish has both similarities and differences from the way Americans live their lives. In particular, the family values in Scotland are very synonymous to that of the American culture. Relatives commonly visit each other but generally do not live together, especially in urban areas, in which 93% of the population lives. In these areas, families tend to be small and stay to themselves. This is comparably similar to the larger cities throughout the United States. Additionally, the elderly of Scotland value their independence. Because of this, most elderly couples do not move into their married children’s homes but rather reside in their own as long as possible. Similar to the United States, the Scots value the independence of the working woman. A high majority of married woman in Scotland work outside of the home and this population is steadily on the rise. Similar to the United States, married women are also responsible for most of the household chores but in general, these responsibilities are shared among newlyweds. In Scotland, most couples marry their spouse during their mid- to late-twenties, but it is not uncommon to marry later. Although the typical marrying age of the Scottish is similar to the United States, there are a few differences in the marriage itself. One common tradition of a Scottish marriage involves the bride giving either sugar almonds or a small posy of dried flowers to both special guests and helpers. Additionally, the best man
