Jordan CampbellFilm C39210/17/13Dr. SubramanianThe People Next Door: Weird or Normal, They’re All CrazyThough horror movies are often seen as mere exploitations of grisly violence and sexualperversion, they have the potential, when done right, to make important commentaries onsociety. One of the major themes in horror films is that of the disturbed human psyche and theperverted moral compass of such individuals. Some people in the world are surely under theimpression that their homes are located in a normal neighborhood alongside people who are justas ethically sound as they are. Horror films are out to prove that these people can be dead wrong, and potentially just dead if they don’t keep on their toes. Two films that sufficiently depict thissubject are Roman Polanski’sRosemary’s Babyand Tobe Hooper’sThe Texas ChainsawMassacre. In both of these films the main characters find themselves initially comfortable intheir own lodgings only to find that the people next door have malicious intent towards them.
