Sarah Shelden LAI 350 – Introduction to Education Observation Paper 13 In a 1-8-1 class made up of students with IQs’ around 40-50, ages 15-18, the class was split up into two separate groups. On one side of the room students were playing bingo, with substantial help from aids and teacher. The object of the game was to match pictures of various signs, such as stop signs, speed limit, and handicap accessible. The teacher picking up the cards first asks the students what the sign is and then further explains were you would find this sign, what it’s used for, what you do if you see it. He then instructs the students to mark if they have the same picture on their board, and checks around to make sure no one missed the picture. When he notices that they should be marking the picture he tells them to check again, and usually they find it on the second try. When a student is repeating what the teacher is saying but says something incorrectly, the teacher says his statement again to have the student say the correct words.
