Introduction:Climate change and the impact it has on our lives is one of the most underratedand imminent dangers facing our world today. The buildup of greenhouse gases in ouratmosphere is a constantly increasing threat to the Earth’s global ecosystem(History.com Editors, 2017). These include, water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane andnitrous oxide. As you know, the increased amount of these gases in the atmospherecause more of the sunlight being trapped in our atmosphere. This causes an overallheating of the Earth, leading to melting polar caps, droughts, and threatens manyanimal species. The Paris Climate Agreement was signed by 195 countries to combatclimate change. The goal was for each country to set progressive goals for greenhousegas emissions and report their progress, hopefully preventing a temperature increase oftwo degrees Celsius globally. This is the point at which scientists believe there will beirreversible damage done to the Earth (History.com Editors, 2017). This graphic showsthe real and prevalent danger that greenhouse gases are playing in our daily lives and Ibelieve that Artificial Intelligence is the answer to solving this problem. A solution to all ofthe damage that the greenhouse gases are causing is switching the majority of ourenergy source to nuclear energy.Greenhouse Gas Contributors:To start to solve this forever looming problem, we need to look at what thebiggest contributor to the buildup of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere are. Datagathered by the Environment Protection Agency shows that 29% of greenhouse gasemissions are coming from transportation. This is where most people don’t realize theeffect they have. People must get from location to location every day and don’t realizethe amount of gases they are producing. Especially in major cities full of traffic such asLos Angeles, New York and San Francisco. 28% of greenhouse gas emissions comesfrom electricity production. While this is probably the most commonly recognized emitter
from coal power plants, political power makes it difficult to create affective change.Lastly, 26% comes from manufacturing and industry, such as, the chemical reactionsused in the creation of plastic, steel and iron (EPA, 2019).Transportation:Cars, trucks and SUV’s have the largestcontribution to greenhouse gas emissions in the UnitedStates. Most of these vehicles burn petroleum forenergy and one byproduct of this is carbon dioxide.
