III. Karen Wright, through her article, “First Americans,” describes her encounter with Spirit Cave Man; one of the earliest humans to be unearthed, and how this Paleo-Indian artifact is helping to “rewrite the prehistory of human habitation in the new World.” (Wright 15) Ultimately, Spirit Cave Man is challenging all traditional textbook interpretations of the New World, a time about 11,500 years ago, and its peoples. Researchers are now finding new evidence and using new methods in an attempt to discover who the First American really was. IV. 1. Spirit Cave Man challenges the original theory that the mammoth hunters from Siberia who crossed the Bering land bridge from the old world into the new, in search of food, making their way across sheets of ice.
