October 10, 2007 Anthropology 102 D04 Seriation: Changes in Material Culture Through Time I believe that the order of the cars, from oldest to most recent, to be: C, H, B, E, A, D, F, G. I also believe that the order for the skating costumes, from oldest to most recent, to be: B, D, C, A. I believe that C is distinguished as the oldest car because of its simple design and disregard for luxury. The driver of car C is exposed to the weather because it is not enclosed; also, the driver has to deal with a cumbersome stick to steer instead of a wheel. Car H has similar characteristics, but has a more comfortable seat and a steering wheel for the drivers comfort. This innovation is then carried over into car B which also has a windshield, passenger seats in the back, and a covering to semi protect the passengers from the elements. Car E is innovative because it completely encloses the driver into the vehicle. Car E also has the convenience of a spare tire. The only noticeable difference between car A and Car E is the carrying capacity, and since a larger vehicle is more complex, Car A has to be the newer vehicle. Car D is the third youngest, and I arrived at this conclusion because it follows the trend of a long front end that it shares in common with Cars B, A, and E.
