DATE: 10/24/13 INTRODUCTION TO PUBLIC HEALTH Assignment 4 THE PUBLIC HEALTH AND THE AGING POPULATION ASSIGNMENT Instruction : Comprehensively describe at least five ways to control Medicare costs so as to prevent the bankruptcy of the system and still ensure medical care for the elderly in an equitable and humane way. Record your ideas below. 1. A reform of Medicare’s payment policies: Currently Medicare payment policies misuse and inappropriately take advantage of the services. There should be a number of changes, one of them being, having options of paying in ways that encourage the use of team- based care. Also, more flexibility to allow nurses and other health professionals to operate. Health care professionals should also be fully equipped with the right instruments to work with and the proper education. The more we can group payments to recompense not just health care, but improved health and allow providers to self-organize the greatest benefits the better off we will all be. Although it is highly unrealistic that the government will not be able to encourage individuals to use such systems around the whole country, we can develop and support as many of these as possible.
