Assignment 2 Sociology When I was a freshman my social network was extremely limited when I first came to school, I didn’t know anyone and I certainly didn’t know how to procure alcohol. As the year progressed my floor got turned into a social network, and ties where expanding with friends gaining friends, but sometimes a member of the floor would want to have an exclusive tie. This occurred with a supplier for alcohol. By maintaining an exclusive connection with a supplier of alcohol the floor member could charge whatever rate he wanted to the rest of the floor. With any position of power it seems that you always have people trying to strengthen a tie in the hopes that that exclusive tie will be passed onto you. Therefore, one performs favors for the person with the power in the hopes that they will have alcohol for the upcoming weekend. Now, the person of power can demand whatever he wants for the alcohol because no one else has the means to procure the alcohol because their social networks haven’t expanded that far yet.
