Introduction The basic multiplication rule is used for finding P ( A and B ) , the probability that event A occurs in a first trial and event B occurs in a second trial . Note that this is different than the event " A and B " where it stood for A and B both occurring in the same trial. Conditional Probability A conditional probability is the probability of an event B given that another event A has occurred. The notation for conditional probability is P ( B | A ) , read as the probability of B given A . A. Bourhim (Syracuse University) Multiplication Rule MAT121, Spring 2015 3 / 10
