Hum 205 March 31, 2008 Representation of Race I am a Native American. I think it is very easy to say how the representation of Native Americans has been portrayed on the big screen. The older movies Indians were portrayed as courageous barbaric peoples. Of recent films I think they have tried to meet the wider aspect of Native American life; the hardships that they go through, especially problems concerning alcohol or the problems with white settlement. Of all the movies that portray Indian life, there is nothing that I can relate to. In that regard I believe my feelings are very mixed. On one hand there is the savage that it is out for nothing but blood and is very one dimensional and his intent is just to kill. Of this portrayal I feel it doesn’t do the Native American people any justice, but for the most part most people know it’s not our intention to scalp all white people. Then there is the wise, noble man that is one with nature. His only main goal is to keep his land, and whatever decision he makes is always
