When an everyday person does something amazing whether it be business related or lifestyle related. Usually they change to a person full of themselves that live only for money. Marc Ecko born and raised in Lakewood New Jersey , attended Lakewood High school where he would spend time “Tag” any flat surface this is also called graffiti. He would also paint girls nails with his own style. Who would think that all this would lead to him creating and ethnic clothing line that has grown to become a billion dollar a year organization. He has been noticed for what he does from a community standpoint and is more accepted then many other companies headed on the same path as Marc. Like any successful person he has been through some highs and lows, but now he is known as one of New York magazine’s top 100 most influential people. Graffiti it is seen in every state, city and town though illegal in most areas it has become a part of the urban community and is known to be strongly part of two ethnic groups, Latin and blacks. It is also strongly tied into the hip-hop music world which is strongly made up of these two ethnicities. Graffiti are the roots of Marc Ecko’s billion dollar organization he started at a young age put his graffiti all over his city. With the growing popularity of the hip hop culture grew the popularity of hip-hop clothing/style. Like every big cultural group phenomenon (Hip-Hop) people try to seize the moment and try to create something that takes advantage of such a popular lifestyle. In the mid 80’s while hip-hop was on the rise decided to take his artistic abilities from the street to another canvas, t-shirts. Starting with six simple t-shirts with a hip-hop style to them they struggled for awhile. In 1993 Marc created Ecko Unlimited with his twin sister and close friend. In the first 6 years of Ecko they had a substantial loss instead of the profits. Then the idea of the Rhino logo came because it was discovered that sales of items that

had a specific logo that people could recognize would sell more. He chose the rhino because in his words “ There’s something really rugged about rhinos. There’s a clumsy poise about them that I think my company embodies in a way.” “We bump into things sometimes, but we mean well. And I’ve learned some things about them that fit us.
