The united states corruptjudicial systemThe Case of Sacco and VanzettiThe case of Sacco and Vanzetti has caused much controversy since its verdict of the death sentence for the two Italian immigrants on April 19th, 1927. Executed just months later on August 23rd, 1927, the lack of evidence in the case and the harsh judgement left many unanswered questions as to why the men were convicted and found guilty of murder. Further, the fact that judge in the case, Judge Thayer, admitted to being prejudiced against Italian immigrants and the fact that he ignoredthe confession of murder from Celestino Madeiros leaves the question as to why the men would ever be found guilty of a crime they were not proven to have done. The post-World War I atmosphere played a strong role in determining the guilty verdict of Sacco and Vanzetti as a resultof the widespread discrimination against Italian immigrants, contributing to this unjust verdict. A huge factor to the result of this case was how the aftermath of World War I affected society, leading to scapegoating.
