Objective The purpose of this lab was to determine the relationship between images and objects using a converging lens optical bench. The lab used a 75mm converging lens along with an optics bench to test the distances between the object and the image. The data for this lab is able to be calculated using the fundamental lens equation: 1/d o + 1/d i = 1/f – where d o =object distance, d i =image distance, and f=focal point of the lens. Equipment/Materials Optics Bench 75mm Focal Length Convex Lens Component Holders (3) Light Source Crossed Arrow Target Viewing Screen Procedure I. Set up the equipment as in Figure 7.1 in the Lab instructions. II. Turn on the light source and slide the lens toward or away from the crossed arrow target, as needed to focus the image of the target onto the viewing screen.
