OBJECTIVES FOR GROUNDWATER 1) What is the largest reservoir of fresh water and what is the largest reservoir of useable fresh water? Largest reservoir is in ice sheets and glaciers Largest usable is groundwater 2) Know the definitions of the following terms: groundwater, porosity, permeability, zone of aeration, water table, zone of saturation, infiltration, aquifer, aquiclude. Zone of Saturation – Water table where it is just water Zone of Aeration – Place where water and air exist, soil or rock at top Water Table – Point of separation of zone of saturation and zone of aeration 3) Know how groundwater flows around a stream. Flows to a stream in normal conditions, base flow
