What Will I need to successfully manage my career? By: Ryan Montour Self Knowledge Assess your basic skills; subtler skills can be acquired. Take an aptitude test. Review it with a counselor. It is important to put the psychiatric jargon in your own words. These are your skills, no some aggregate population’s. The more you can understand the results (and come up with examples from your own life) the more use it will be to you. Experience Learn all you can about the industry, leading companies and entry level positions. You may not go to work for one of the leading firms, but the kinds of moves they make frequently trickle down o smaller companies. Go on information interviews. Learn all you can from as many different kinds of people in the industry as you can. Education Education comes in two types: general education and specific education. General education is widely available in almost every part of the U.S. and
