INTERPRETER MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY
The Interpreter Manager will provide leadership, direction and coordination of the operations, budget and staff of the Interpreter Services
Department, including responding to daily needs/requests from internal and external customers and staff, providing supervision and
coaching of staff and independent contract interpreters, and processing interpreter payments. S/he ensures compliance with legal and
regulatory requirements and develops best-practice and service benchmarks in the area of linguistically appropriate services across UW
Health.
When needed to ensure appropriate level of service for patients & families, s/he will provide interpretation for UW Health patients, families
and staff.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Manage Interpreter Services Department

Plan and manage budget

Make decisions on staffing levels and deployment and direct staff

Internal and External Customers : Respond to internal and external customers’ feedback regarding provision of
services, keep Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion apprised of any issues, and refer issues to Director when
appropriate.

Department staff : Provide coaching and feedback to staff on day to day performance issues. Keep Director apprised of
any issues and refer issues to Director of Patient Partnerships when appropriate. Responsible for staff performance
reviews.

Independent Contract Interpreters : Maintain updated database. Oversee payment of interpreters. Ensure compliance
with all requirements. Provide coaching and feedback on performance issues. Keep Director of Diversity, Equity &
Inclusion apprised of any issues and refer issues to Director when appropriate.
