Tim Thyne Why Not Catcher To be blunt, this book makes me sick! The reason that I choose not to read The Catcher in the Rye cannot be fully explained in words in its complete nature. Back on July 4, 1993 I made the commitment to never be part of obscenity, foolish talk, which is the corruption of the mind, and to be pure in heart, soul, mind, and body. I believe that this book portrays immoral elements that are unnecessary. I also believe that the book would not benefit me as a Christian, but rather weaken me as a Christian. Since August my faith in God has grown stronger than I had ever dreamed. Since then I’ve realized that I need to always be pure with no exceptions. Being perfect is impossible, but we have to try as hard as possible; life is a marathon not a sprint. I believe that reading this book would be making an exception on God. The most important thing is God, which means that every thing must be below God. I must obey God and in doing so I must not be a part of obscenity or corruption of the mind. An example of corruption of the mind is reading sexual exploits. I
