C. Roper COMS 111.01 Title: The Mean Bean Thesis: The current meal plan policies and prices at ACU are unfair for on-campus students. Organization Style: Problem-Solution Introduction : Fact: Over 97% of ACU students that eat in the Bean, pay more per-meal than the actual price Aramark charges. Fact: ACU, not Aramark retains profit from meals unused by students Fact: 44% of lower-classmen at ACU pay more to enter the Bean than someone who pays in cash. How can this be you ask? How can I be paying more than someone that may only eat there once? My recent seat as Senator in the ACU Students’ Association has allowed me to dig deeper into the inner-workings of ACU. My experience working with Maher Saab, former ACU Student Body President, my communications with students, and multiple interviews with Anthony Williams, the head of Dining Services, has left me with some sour facts about the ACU Meal Plan prices. Today I would like to talk about how ACU has raised tuition through the back door, and then I would like to offer some ideas to on how to defeat what I call – The Mean Bean. [Okay…]
