CHE101 - Laboratory Report Name: Zoe Rabun Date: June 25 th , 2015 Title: Identifying Halide Ions Purpose: The purpose for this experiment is for primarily focus on how to identify th halogen ions. By using a chemical reagent I will be able to determine if the halogen ion will react or not. Procedure: Experiment 1: I took four test tubes and filled them each individually with a different halogen. Test Tube #1 - 10.5 mL sodium chloride (NaCl) Test Tube #2 - 10.5 mL sodium fluoride (NaF) Test Tube #3 - 10.5 mL sodium iodide (NaI) Test Tube #4 - 10.5 mL potassium bromide (KBr) I then added 4.5 mL of calcium nitrate (Ca(NO 3 ) 2 ) test reagent to each of the four test tubes. Looking closely, I recorded the evidence I observed, then disposed the tubes Experiment 2: I took four new test tubes and filled them each individually with the different halogen solutions. Test Tube #1 - 10.5 mL sodium chloride (NaCl) Test Tube #2 - 10.5 mL sodium fluoride (NaF) Test Tube #3 - 10.5 mL sodium iodide (NaI) Test Tube #4 - 10.5 mL potassium bromide (KBr) I then added 4.5 mL of silver nitrate (AgNO 3 ) test reagent to each of the four test tubes. Looking closely, I recorded the evidence I observed, then disposed the tubes Experiment 3: I took four beakers and filled them each individually with the different halogens
