It is a virus that preys onthe body's immune system, and if not treated, it causes AIDS (Acquired ImmunodeficiencySyndrome). The spread of HIV from person to person is known as HIV transmission. People cancontract HIV through particular actions such as blood transfusions with infected samples,infected body fluids getting into the bloodstream, having unprotected sex, and using infectedneedles. It can also be transmitted to unborn children during birth.Anyone can get HIV, but you can protect yourself from being infected. The first steptowards prevention is being tested for HIV to be aware of your status. You can do this test inmany ways, you can visit a healthcare facility near you to get tested, or you can purchase atesting kit and do it at the comfort of your home.Another way of preventing HIV is choosing less risky sexual behaviors.
