Illegal Immigrants: Unfair to the Country If you were to look up the definition to illegal, you would probably find something relating to a crime. So, an illegal immigrant is in essence a criminal, right? In many ways, they are. First off, to be an illegal immigrant, one must sneak into the country undocumented, which is a crime. Also, most work under-the-table jobs at wages lower than minimum wage, which is also a crime. Now, I’m not saying that all illegal immigrants are criminals. I understand that many can’t afford the expensive paper process immigrants have to go through. But there are reasons why they are there. Illegal immigrants affect the U.S. health care system detrimentally. On World Net Daily, there is an article that begins with a family who immigrated to Stockton, California from Mexico in 1997. The mother and wife, Felipa, gave birth to a daughter in the United States, named Flor. Flor was born premature and was placed in a neonatal incubator at San Joaquin Hospital for three months, which would cost $300,000. Since they were illegal immigrants and had no insurance, the hospital had to swallow the hefty bill. Later on in the article, it says that in a study done by Madeleine Pelner Cosman, “84 California hospitals are closing their doors as a direct result of the rising number of illegal aliens and their non- reimbursed tax on the system”. That kind of damage to the health care system can seriously affect U.S. Citizens. People having a serious medical problem may have to travel farther to find a hospital because one that was much closer had to be shut down, which could impact whether
