Danny West March 13, 2008 Shannon Pufhal Rock ‘n’ Roll, Chaos, and Paris I had lived in four different homes by the time I was eight years old. My father works for Chevron and for some reason they don’t believe in a permanent work environment and transferred my dad all across the country. So defining home as a place of residence, like many do, doesn’t really sit well with me. The Merriam-Webster online dictionary has a variety of definitions for home . There is one definition that I found most appealing to me: “relaxed and comfortable: at ease.” That is the best way I can describe what home means to me. When I think of home several words, images, and feelings rush into my brain, but there are three specific ideas that always come to mind when I think of home. The first thing I see is my immediate family, followed by my extended family, and lastly a group of friends. These three memories are the reason I define home as a feeling of security and tranquility. My mother is the most important person in my life. I guess you could say I was a “momma’s boy” growing up. We have a very strong connection and have unconditional love for each other. I feel that I am honestly the luckiest kid to have her as my mom. There are so many good morals and aspects of living life that she taught my brother and me. One of them was that she always made sure that we were happy and having fun. There is one memory in particular always strikes up a warm feeling inside whenever I think of it. My brother had a big impact on me growing up, so whatever he liked, I liked. We were big Guns ‘n’ Roses fans and loved pretending to be them anytime we saw them on MTV. My mother bought us small toy instruments. My brother had a guitar and I had a saxophone; little did I know that there was never a saxophone in Guns ‘n’ Roses. One Saturday morning, my brother (ten years old at the time) and I (four years old) were watching MTV and November Rain, by Guns ‘n’ Roses, West 1

came on and we began to rock out. My brother was Slash and because my brother was Slash, I of course was Slash as well. About a minute into the song my mother joined us. She must have being in the kitchen because she ran into the living room with a rolling pin, which she used as a microphone to sing along with us. My father was trying to read the newspaper in the same room and after a minute or so of egging on from my mom he began to play the air
