Mi Jeong Jo Russian Studies Mr. Cook November 14, 2014 Tri 1 Final Essay The Great Leaders from the Romanov Dynasty The world has seen a profound transformation of individual states to modernized and globalized nations in the last few centuries, and Russia is often cited as a political hotbed where many transformations took place. Peter the Great can be understood as a leader who started this transformation. In fact, just as Franklin Roosevelt came up with the New Deal Act to prevent another economic decline in the United States, the Russians wanted to solidify their nation after the Time of Troubles by following the precedent of the Peter the Great. Peter the Great was ambitious for creating an institution that would outlast himself, and his influence in Russian history was profound. In fact, by following Peter the Great s work of empowering himself and the nobles, Empress Anna, Catherine the Great, Alexander I, and Nicolas I continued the trend of solidifying and stabilizing the nation that can last longer. Peter the Great is considered one of the most effective transformational leaders in Russian history. He was the first leader to really separate from the church. Also, he did not want to be addressed with the title of Tsar, which was a former name for the Russian leader that came from the word Caesar. With a novel title of emperor, he had a different style of leadership than those who came before him. He remarkably focused on the future of Russia rather than
