Ellis kingham 1302. Dr. Dominguez March 28, 2005 America the Melting Pot Prejudice and racism have plagued our world for thousands of years in a way that tears at the very foundation of society. The United States of America is not an exception. From the times of slavery, until present African Americans have dealt with rascism and prejudice.In his poem “Theme for English B” Langston Hughes shows a Young man that takes a seemingly simple assignment as a chance to delve into the sensitive issue of race relations in America. While doing so it shows how the young man lives, caught between two completely different worlds. Through the use of form, word choice, rhyme, and simple diction create a work that is vaguely idealistic yet unmistakeably American. In the opening stanza the assignment reads “ Go home and write a page tonight. And let that page come out of you-Then it will be true. The teachers instructions tell to be honest and true. This symbolizes the need for every person to discover the true
