These philosophers are immature examples of “social consciousness”, “theoretical bubble-blowers” (p. 19) Science of Society For social science to be valid, the scientist must think independently of the object of investigation (society) – yet most social scientists fail to do this The formula “social being determines social consciousness” suggests this wil be difficult (academic success, commercial success, and the like, can obliterate social scientific thinking) o Ppl don’t express what they think instead what is conveyed by society (artists at times are an exception) Clicker Q: What is social being? o
