COMMUNICATION 201: Fall 2007 COURSE OBJECTIVES 1. To strengthen the individual's skills and techniques in the preparation and delivery of oral presentations. 2. To obtain self-confidence and poise in the presence of others through the presentations of oral compositions in class. 3. To heighten the individual's sensitivity to verbal and non-verbal behavior in himself/herself and others through classroom interaction. 4. To bridge the gap between the individual's self-image and the image of himself/herself as held by others. 5. To create an overall awareness of and sensitivity to the communication process. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Introductory speech 1. How to speech 5-6 min. 2. 15% Informative 8 min. 3. 20% Persuasive (to convince) 8-9 min. 4. 25% Persuasive (to actuate) 8-9 min. 5. 10% Entertainment/Oral Reading/Impromptu 5-7 min. All speeches must be original compositions. This means that students are expected to compose, organize and otherwise prepare their own speeches.
