Bryan Thompson Appalachian Lit Final Exam Essay December 12, 2007 My Experience I came into this semester without a clue in the world as to what it may hold . It was to be my first semester as an English major and my first semester ever carrying a heavy load of classes . As I scoured the list of available classes on Norse Express I was immediately drawn to English 463 Studies in American Regional Lit . An Appalachian literature class would be an awesome opportunity to not only earn an English credit, but also possibly provide me with a bit of familiarity in what was shaping up to be a very unfamiliar semester . From the first class meeting I was excited and engaged . As an Appalachian I couldn’t have asked for a better chance . So many nights I was able to leave my downtown Newport bedroom and be back home in Appalachia in my mind with characters like C . J . Marcum, Clay Sizemore, or Laura Bruce . Being from a part of the region studied in the course, I thought I had a pretty good
