26/02/2008 11:01:00 Lecture 12 (Outline): Post WWII Theories of Economic Policy Choice 1. Structuralism- is more of a Keynesian  1945 o 1840’s -1920’s British Hegemons-‘Fair Field and no favor’ o 1930’s Freer Trade? (is it really beneficial) o beggar they neighbor  policies with everyone trying to increase trade they end up destroying  their profit o 1945 – US becomes the hegemon in the means of economic we are in support in freer trade because we have the most to  gain.   Opposed to free trade and open markets o This is because primary products exports – only one stage in the  production process It is not creating a lot of jobs and its not beneficial for the  country o Structuralism- protects elites – Authoritarian Government is the only  way to protect the elites – the structuralism object to all of these 1. Erratic Prices it is very hard to pan for the future if the price of
