Mike Vontobel February 18, 2008 MKTG 240-05 Professor McGinnis Best Buy 1) Best Buy has a strategy called the “devil-angel” strategy. This is a technique which is very confusing and often risky especially for a corporation as big as Best Buy. They want to get rid of the devils by getting rid of a lot of low priced sales and bargainswhich the devils make a profit off of by reselling the low priced merchandise. Best Buy wants toappeal to their high spenders. They will appeal to their high spenders by stocking more merchandise and providing more appealing service. 2) Yes, Best Buy is definitely engaged in data mining. Data mining is when a company looks into their computer records to try to find hidden patterns that may offer insight into customer’s needs and wants. The article says that, “it is examining sales records and demographic data and sleuthing through computer databases to identify good and bad customers.” This is a concrete example of data mining. 3)
